Dear Equality Supporter,

The clock is ticking. The time to stand up for LGBT families is now.

Over the next few weeks, Congress will decide which critical pieces of legislation will move forward before lawmakers go home. On Tuesday, Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ) said he would like the LGBT-inclusive immigration reform bill he introduced earlier this year to be one of those.

We have an important opportunity to ensure that, at long last, federal law recognizes all LGBT families. Stand up for LGBT families and ask your Senator to co-sponsor The Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act of 2010.

Whether your family is binational or not, legislation to extend immigration rights is an important first step in securing broader recognition, and rights, for every LGBT family. Passage of an LGBT-inclusive reform bill would mark the first time LGBT couples are recognized as families under U.S. law. We now have an opportunity to do just that.

We’ve already made history. Senator Menendez’s bill is the first, comprehensive immigration reform legislation to include our families. Now, we can make history for every LGBT family by building the support we need to move forward.

When we secure equality for LGBT immigrant families, all LGBT families win. You can help us begin that work in this Congress, this year, by standing with Senator Menendez and calling on your Senator to co-sponsor this important legislation.

Earlier this week, Senator Menendez said allies are “clearly interested” in considering his bill before the end of the year and that he would meet again this week to discuss the bill with President Obama. It is imperative that our families stand with them, and break down the barriers that have rendered too many families invisible for far too long.

Join us, and tell Congress: Our families must be recognized.

Yours in the Fight,
